Where's The "O" (And The "D"?): BYU 38 Oregon 8

In an anticipated match up between two prolific and high scoring offenses, it was thought that the total point number between the two teams (Brigham Young and Oregon) would be over sixty. It was with some surprise that it took both offenses some time to get on track, and not many believed that the first quarter would end up scoreless. Well, it did, but the Cougars found their rhythm offensively in the second quarter for 17 points behind a well-balance offensive attack that kept Oregon guessing for the rest of the game, while the Ducks could find absolutely no one making plays on the offensive end, with a grand total of just 73 yards for their first half effort. Doesn't take a genius to figure that one's defense would be on the field for far too long, becoming tired and giving up more and more in the way of yards and points.

Oregon's problems offensively started with not being able to get the running game going, protecting the quarterback, especially as starter Brady Leaf isn't the most nimble-footed athlete when avoiding the pressure, and catching the passes that were thrown to them. That about covers all facets of production, doesn't it? The play calling was also questionable, and the dependability of big time receiver Jaison Williams was not on display, as he wasn't even thrown to until well into the second half when the outcome was no longer in question.

More info later when the stats come out, but total congrats to the BYU Cougars for an outstanding effort in the Las Vegas Bowl; tis just a pity that the Oregon Ducks never really showed up.
