Tottenham 5 Charlton 1

Okay, so Charlton are bottom of the table. Still, it was still nice to be able to see the Spurs finish their chances, and in numbers, and paste the hapless Attics in a London derby at White Hart Lane.

The first half was energetic with a lot of activity, particularly in front of Spurs goalie Paul Robinson, but Charlton wound up with nothing to show for it despite leading in terms of possession at the 30 minute mark 71% to 29%.

Dimitar Berbatov then got the goal deluge under way in the 30th minute with some lovely passing from Tom Huddlestone and Aaron Lennon, and then making a well-timed break for the open area with no defenders, leaving the hapless Charlton goalie with little chance for a stop.

Teemu Tainio scored on a well-placed kick outside the penalty box just a couple of minutes later, getting the instinctive shot off from a poor clearance by the defenders, and getting the ball to bend off a defender at the last second, which sent the ball into the back of the net.

Charlton got their goal in the 41st as an own-goal gift from Spurs, a mix-up between Micheal Dawson and Paul Robinson that left the goalie struggling to retain a batted-up ball while being off-balance, and the scored ended up 2-1.

Spurs put the game away with a 3-goal blitz in 13 minutes in the second half, starting in the 55th, when Steed Malbranque controlled the ball off of his chest in the box, turned and blasted the kick into the net for a 3-1 lead, the goal being Steed's first for the club.

Jermaine Defoe scored in the 62nd, when Aaron Lennon intercepted a forward Charlton pass on the visitor's side, and quickly sent the ball to Defoe on the right side of the goal, where the striker rocketed the shot from well outside the box.

Berbatov got his second goal a couple of minutes after on more poor marking and defending by Charlton, and left the game to a huge ovation in the 75th minute.

With the game well in hand by that point, it was left to Robinson to show off some nice work at the end, starting with a great tackle on Darren Bent inside the box at the 87th that had to have left the visitors to shake their heads and mumble "It's not our day, is it?".

Maybe some pics later, the match just got over half an hour ago. A great start to the day though. Come On You Spurs!
