Basketball Game Called Due To Rain

Sounds like a headline straight from the wild days of the old American Basketball Association (ABA), which once had to postpone a game when an airline lost both teams luggage, including uniforms, before a game.

No, this instead was a college women's basketball game held outdoors yesterday at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, in a stadium with a retractable roof. The game was called with 4:18 left in the contest, with the Sun Devils holding a 61-45 lead. It was 56 degrees at the start of the game, though there was no official word about the temperature close to the end of the game close to two hours later. Maybe one can get away with this, even in Arizona, in November...........maybe.

As for the ABA, one could do worse, a whole lot worse, than to check out the terrific website...Remember The ABA....or read the essential book LOOSE BALLS, an anecdotal remembrance of the innovative league by some of the people who were there, including Bob Costas, Julius Erving, Steve 'Snapper' Jones, etc.
