Tell 'Em "You Need A Diamond In Your Life"

Driving to Portland at 3:30 in the morning, there are a few stations that I hit up and down the dial. Coast To Coast With George Noory is one that I'll give an ear to occasionally, totally dependent on the guest, topic, etc. Today, filmmaker Alex Jones was on, talking about things like the New World Order, the North American Union, and other similar ideas that tend to relate to shadowy orders or syndicates or groups hell-bent on conforming the world to their ideas, getting rid of many of the basic liberties that we Americans take for granted.

One topic broached was that of the diamond and its role amongst the gems of the world, brought up with relation to a new film entitled Blood Diamonds, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connelly, which I have yet to see. Once the subject was addressed, Jones went on explaining how diamond sales have been tied to advertising, especially in the very recent past, as well as the mining conditions for those apparently often practically forced to mine them for their living, usually with a gun at their back and with comprehensive x-rays at the end of the shift for every worker.

How co-incidental (?) then that a 1982 Atlantic Monthly article has been brought forward again via another news service, Digg. A lengthy but fascinating read is linked below.

COAST TO COAST

For the record, the other stations I listen to are KBOO's Shocks Of Sheba (quality reggae at 4 in the morning is a treat indeed), 94.7 KNRK (for some alternative stuff), or maybe some classic rock at 106.3 on the FM dial. The Coast To Coast show is on the AM side, KEX 1190, spun to between Mike & Mike In The Morning on ESPN/The Fan 1080, or the old, old country of 1460. Once I get to Portland though, it's usually back to KEX for all of the latest traffic updates on the battle for I-205.
