Sorry to note the passing, from cancer, of former major league pitcher Vern Ruhle on Saturday. He wasn't one of the most dominating pitchers of his day, his best total was 88 K's in 199 innings for the 1976 Tigers, but he was one of those pitchers who managed to string together a 10 year plus career for several teams. Opening a pack of Topps baseball cards back then, and finding out that there was another card printed for the guy gave me a sense of relief, he was just one of those players I'd always be rooting for to do well, anyplace in the league, I'd always be checking out the daily newspaper box score, and the box scores from the Sporting News, to see how he was doing.
