Anna Nicole Smith R.I.P.

Was pretty busy yesterday, and didn't get to note the sad passing of Anna Nicole Smith. We all (well, most men anyway) were captivated by her pictures as a Guess? model and as a Playboy Playmate, and captivated by both her train-wreck of a reality show on E! (on record, one of only two "reality" shows that I ever watched more than one episode of, the other being the first Real World series on MTV) and her marriage to 89 year old billionaire J. Howard Marshall, followed by the subsequent fight for her to get at least part of his estate. The wacky behaviour, the tragedy in her life, all of the strife and turmoil regarding the marriage, the public pressure, real or denied, of trying to stay thin in a world where we apparently love our celebrities to be thin while we ourselves get fatter, combined with apparent drug use are factors that sadden me in this death.

Yes, I looked at her pictures, laughed at her on her show, scratched my head at the marriage, and was surprised by her efforts to regain part of the celebrity limelight of which it seems that it was the only thing for which she was suited for in her life. Hopefully she has found some kind of peace now, a very sad end to a surreal life.
