A Salem man entered the Peoples' Church on Lancaster Drive in NE Salem on Wednesday night and started several fires in the sanctuary while people were worshipping during an evening service. He was then subdued by several members of the congregation.
The personal connection to the story is that an ex-roommate of mine was a member of the church (I personally had been there several times, though not in the past decade, when I no longer resided in Salem), and that the suspect, one Kam Shing Chan, aka Daniel Chan, was employed at Canton Garden Restaurant
